According to a new census report, white people will no longer make up a majority of Americans by 2042 . They say that minorities as a whole will be the majority thanks to immigration and higher birth rates among minority residents, especially Hispanics.
The U.S. has nearly 305 million people today. The population is projected to hit 400 million in 2039 and 439 million in 2050. According to the census report, by 2050, whites will make up 46 percent of the population and blacks will make up 15 percent, a relatively small increase from today. Hispanics, who make up about 15 percent of the population today, will account for 30 percent in 2050, according to the new projections. Asians, which make up about 5 percent of the population, are projected to increase to 9 percent by 2050.
The population 85 and older is projected to more than triple by 2050, to 19 million.
So, how does this relate to me?
In the year 2050, I’ll be part of the 19 million people over 85 which means that there will be no money left for social security and there will be a lack of available housing for the elderly. I’ll be living off of the grace of my children and I’ll be their burden. Guess I’d better be nice to them.
On the flipside, being a minority member will make me more eligible for student loans and scholarships. I’ll get special treatment to fulfill government sanctioned and other activities that have quotas.
I sure hope that I live long enough to see how this actually turns out.
