I was brought up by parents who never said “I love you”.
I cannot explain why this is. We never said “I love you” to one another before hanging up the phone or when I left for college.
I never liked this but, breaking the tradition to tell my parents or siblings that I love them never came to mind. It’s not that we were not close. It was more like we were afraid to say it. But, because this bothered me so much. I have always made a point to tell my children that I love them on a daily basis.
Now that my parents are old and their days are pretty much numbered, I make a point of telling them that I love them. I don’t care whether or not they reciprocate. I know that they love me because of the support they have given me throughout my life. I only wish that they don’t regret not telling their children how much they love them because they are afraid.
Be sure to tell everyone in your family how much you love them.
You never know when you want have the chance to do so.
