Weekends are suppose to be a time when you can relax from the weekly grind and get caught up with your chores. This past weekend was amazingly different, thanks to all kinds of good tidings.
This US Army decision infuriated a lot of people especially those at Operation Baghdad Pups (OBP). OBP was in Iraq last Wednesday in an attempt to get the dog, unsuccessfully.
Then OBP appealed to the rest of the world, including you and me. An online petition drive netted over 50,000 votes of protest (their goal was 10,000).
The good news is that OBP was able to rescue Ratchet yesterday. The dog is expected to be flown to Washington today and will be in Sgt. Gwen Beberg’s home state on Wednesday, according to Baghdad Pups publicist Larry Garrison.
The military prohibits soldiers from adopting pets abroad and bringing them to the United States. This is a stupid rule and the issue needs to be evaluated on an individual basis. Dogs can help prevent stress, as proven in studies, and can therefore be elemental in the prevention of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As far as the military is concerned, allowing ‘cleared’ dogs to return to the states with their owners is a cheap prevention which requires no drugs or hospitalization.
Kudos to the heroic angel from OBP, Terri Crisp who makes this impossible task happen
I urge you to make a simple donation Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which runs OBP to help pay for rescue missions such as Ratchets. I did.
Cole, the little boy from Las Vegas who was kidnapped in what law enforcement is calling a drug related message to his grandfather, has been found, safe.
Cole has been found, he is safe and in our custody,” Capt. Vince Cannito told reporters
Cole Puffinburger was found by a bus driver Saturday night on a quiet street outside a Methodist church in Las Vegas, four days after being snatched from his mother’s home by two men posing as police officers.
Cole was in “extremely good condition” but was taken to University Medical Center as a precaution, Las Vegas police Capt. Vincent Cannito said. He was treated and released to his father’s care early Sunday, hospital spokesman Rick Plummer said.
Thank goodness someone was looking out for the innocent child.
As you may have heard, Former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced Sunday that he will be voting for Sen. Barack Obama, citing the Democrat’s “ability to inspire” and the “inclusive nature of his campaign.”
Powell will most likely serve on the Obama adminsitration, according to the news reports.
Powell was outspoken about his disagreement with how the Republican party as a whole has been behaving and most specifically, about the Presidential campaign.
Powell’s outspoken endorcement is probably the nudge the Democratic ticket needed to put it over the top.
And Finally, there is happiness in Tampa Bay this morning.
The Tampa Bay Rays dethroned the defending champions Boston Red Sox to advance to the World Series. Bookies had at one time said that this would be a 200-1 possibility. The Rays will host the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 Wednesday night.
You know, if the Cubs couldn’t do it, it’s probably pretty cool that the Rays could.
