There is a lot of talk about Hilary Clinton being appointed Secretary of State under the incoming Obama administration. This would explain part of the reason behind Bill and Hilary Clinton being so involved with the Obama campaign toward the end of Obama’s Presidential campaigning.
The question is, this has been a rumor for what seems like a long time in the incoming administration appointment scheme of things. What’s taking so long?
There is some talk that the appointment is taking longer than epected because Hilary has been outspoken about other countries.
During her own presidential campaign, Hilary criticized China for its crackdown on protesters in Tibet. She was one of many Senators who urged President Bush to boycott the Olympics in Beijing.
On the Senate floor , Hilary was an outspoken critic of a proposed deal concenring a Dubai company.
And then there is the Bill Clinton factor. The former president has raised money internationally in countries such as China, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Canada. The New York Times reported that he fundraised from a foundation linked to the United Arab Emirates and the governments of Kuwait and Qatar. The money goes to his foundation which includes financing his presidential library- not a bad thing. However, some of the donations have come from sources that some media believe to oppose some of Hilary’s beliefs.
Bill Clinton has had a few words for things going on in the world since he left power. In a speech in London in 2006, Bill spoke on a variety of world issues, including the Middle East peace process. Could Bill Clinton’s presence around the world somehow damage Hilary’s effectiveness as a Secretary of State?
According to Hilary;
“I am happy being a senator from New York. I love this state and this city,” Clinton said Monday in response to a reporter’s question. “I am looking at the long list of things I have to catch up on and do. But I want to be a good partner, and I want to do everything I can to make sure [Obama’s] agenda is going to be successful.”
