It seems like we have been dealing with this political crud all week long.
Our state Gov., Rod Blagojevich, was arrested by FBI agents earlier in the week on federal corruption charges related in part to the selection of President-elect Barack Obama’s successor to the Senate.
According to the media, there is a lot of proof and Blagojevich had some knowledge of being investigated. There have been bipartisan requests that he step down.
Afterall, how can he manage a state with 12,000,000 + people in it while he himself is under scrutiny?
Blagojevich just doesn’t seem to get it so now Illinois lawmakers have to take it a step further.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has asked the state’s highest court to remove Gov. Rod Blagojevich temporarily from office.
The irony in this announcement is that just moments after Madigan‘s announcement, news broke that Blagojevich’s chief of staff, John Harris, resigned.
Harris was also arrested this week on federal corruption charges relating in part to the selection of a successor to Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat.
Madigan says that given the charges against him, she does not think Blagojevich can do his job. The court filing asks that Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn become acting governor.
The Illinois Legislature wants Blagojevich out too.
They are scheduled to convene in a special session Monday. Madigan said she encourage lawmakers to move forward with impeachment proceedings.
Does Blagojevich have a conscience?
There are media reports that he met with several pastors at his house on Chicago’s North Side.
“We offered prayer with the family in the home,” said the Rev. Marshall Hatch of Chicago’s New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church.
Blagojevich ‘s gonna need it.
“Faced with a significant budget shortfall, a national recession and a vacant United States Senate seat, we cannot afford to allow Illinois to operate without effective leadership in the executive branch,” said the letter, also signed by Reps. Thomas Holbrook, David Miller and James Brosnahan.
“Simply put, it is imperative to replace Gov. Blagojevich as soon as is practicable.”
In a letter by the lawmakers, the impeachment filing was under preparation, and the lawmakers said they expected the process — the state House would bring charges against Blagojevich, and the state Senate would try him — would take “a matter of weeks, rather than months.”
Illinois first lady Patricia Blagojevich is also not immune.
“Hold up that f—ing Cubs s—. F— them,” she allegedly said as her husband, Democratic Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, discussed withholding state funds from the Cubs’ parent Tribune Company unless the owner agreed to fire certain Chicago Tribune employees.
Seven days later, according to the affidavit, she took part in a meeting about whether President-elect Barack Obama would secure a lucrative job for her if her husband appointed Obama’s preferred candidate to his vacant Senate seat.
Again, I ask, What is it that Blagojevich doesn’t get?
Is he arrogant, blind or just not that smart?
This mess is telling us something. Is it politics as usual?
