Yesterday, I posted some links to other blogs.
I did this because I belong to a network with other bloggers. The purpose of our network is to link to one another in an attempt to increase Technorati authority.
I got some e-mails and comments from confused readers. So, I’ll try to explain this to you. I am not an expert, but, here it is as I understand it to be. Readers- feel free to add to this as needed.
About the company.
Technorati is an Internet search engine for searching blogs. According to Wikepdeia, As of June 2008, Technorati indexes 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media. Technorati looks at tags that authors have placed on their websites. These tags help categorize search results, with recent results coming first.
Technorati Authority is the number of blogs linking to a website in the last six months. The higher the number, the more Technorati Authority the blog has.
My authority is posted on the far right of this site. While I am proud of my number, there are a lot of bloggers with a better authority number.
How can any of us increase our authority?
According to Technorati, they measure the number of blogs, rather than the number of links. So, if a blog links to your blog many times, it still only count as +1 toward your authority. Of course, new links mean the +1 will last another 180 days.
Technorati Rank is calculated based on how far you are from the top. The blog with the hightest Technorati Authority is the #1 ranked blog. The smaller your Technorati Rank, the closer you are to the top.
Since at the lower end of the scale many blogs will have the same Technorati Authority, they will share the same Technorati Rank. The best way to increase your Technorati Authority is to write things that are interesting to other bloggers so they’ll link to you. Linking to source material when you blog is also a great way to engage in conversation and help others find what you find interesting.
What does all this mean?
It’s just another methods to get readers to your blog.
If you are interested in a link exchange, let me know.
