Today is the start of the impeachment trial of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.
However, he will not be there. He will be making the rounds of daytime TV trying to persuade the rest of the US that he is being framed and that he is an innocent victim. Um, despite the fact that we have all heard the recordings of him trying to sell a Senate seat to the highest bidder. Are you kidding me?
When you see my Governor on TV today, appearing on “Good Morning America,” “The View,” and on Larry King take his words with a grain of salt.
Consider this. He has hired a PR firm and his lawyer has quit.
The lawyer who was defending Blagojevich’s since the governor was arrested on December 9 on federal corruption charges has resigned.
Launching an all-out media blitz Blagojevich compared himself Friday to an honest, hardworking cowboy and said he was about to be lynched by a band of black-hatted political insiders eager to raise taxes. He even mentioned the Dalai Lama and a few other notables in his comparison. Are you kidding me? The Dalai Lama sell a Santa seat to the highest bidder?
“The heart and soul of this has been a struggle of me against the system,” Blagojevich said at a news conference Friday.
His December arrest was the final straw for the people of Illinois and our lawmakers. The Illinois House voted 114-1 for impeaching the governor. That sent the case to the Senate, where it would take a two-thirds majority to convict Blagojevich and throw him out of office
Dude…come back down to earth. We have heard the tapes. Oh, and by the way, who the heck is running our state while your are out touring the country? We are running our of salt for our snow and ice covered roads.
