Note to self– before you open your mouth, consider the whole picture. That would include, who you are, where you are, who is around you and what the repercussions of your words may mean.
Case in point…
Britain’s Prince Harry.
Way back in 2006, while serving on grandmama’s Royal service, there were videos shot by Britain’s Prince Harry. The videos included offensive language.
Now it’s 2009 and the great Prince, possible heir to the throne itself, made an official apology, yesterday, from the prince and the royal family.
What took you so long?
The British-based News of the World released the videos on its Web site.
On the videos there is an ‘alleged’ British soldier, Prince Harry, who calls one solider a “Paki,” and in another clip tells soldier wearing a cloth on his head that he looks “like a raghead.”
(what’s a raghead?)
A spokesman for Prince Harry apologized in a statement released by St. James’s Palace after the videos surfaced online, saying the prince “understands how offensive this term can be, and is extremely sorry for any offense his words might cause.”
Why didn’t he apologize himself? Why is there some ‘protocolish’ statement from a basically unknown individual?
A voice, which the News of the World claims to be Harry’s, is heard saying, “(expletive) me, you look like a raghead.” In response to that comment, St. James’s Palace said, “Prince Harry used the term ‘raghead’ to mean Taliban or Iraqi insurgent.”
Prince Harry, who is third in line to the British throne. In 2005, he was photographed wearing a Nazi uniform to a party, for which he said he was sorry.
“It was a very stupid thing to do and I’ve learned my lesson, simple as that really,” he said in a September 2005 interview marking his 21st birthday. “I’d like to put it in the past now. What’s done is done. I regret it.”
You gotta feel sorry for the Prince. In a pathetic way.
