For a long time, I wouldn’t fly because somebody that I knew was killed in a crash back in the 1987. Her small plane went head on into a mountain and wiped out an entire family.
Due to a family tragedy, I recently had to board an airplane for the first time since then.
Surprisingly, according the statistics , air travel is the safest way to go.

As a matter of fact, the FAA says that there hasn’t been a major airline crash in two years in the US. That’s because of experience and professionalism of people like this guy, Chesley B. “Sully” Sullenberger .
What do you do when your plane has a collision with a flock of birds?
You safely land it, nailing the land every step of the way. Then, when the plane is fully evacuated you walk the aisles of the plane without checking to make sure every passenger had been evacuated. Who does that?
By CBS News’ calculations, the plane hit the water by about 150 miles an hour.
“It is remarkable that it did little damage to the aircraft, it did not break the fuselage,” said CBS News correspondent Bob Orr, who is an aviation expert. Passengers on the plane say that soon after the plane took off from LaGuardia Airport for Charlotte, North Carolina, they heard a boom and started smelling smoke. The captain came over the loudspeaker and said “brace for impact.”
Paramedics treated at least 78 patients, many for hypothermia, bruises and other minor injuries, fire officials said.
Just when you thought the weather, economy and the Mideast were going to get you down, we have a hero. Thank goodness for the good stuff and the good people in the world!
