Sometimes, it may seem to the majority of us that there may be people who take things a bit too far.
One of my favorite TV shows is Wife Swap. If you are unfamiliar with the show, they take moms from two opposite families and place them in the other one’s home for 2 weeks. It’s more than surprising what is going on in other homes.
Many of us like the show for simple entertainment while others just want to compare what’s going on in their own home to somebody else’s.
A couple of weeks ago there was an episode with what may have seemed to many of us to be a ‘snooty’ dad who gave his midwestern wife not a chance in the world.
The January 30th episode showed the father verbally demeaning toward the Missouri woman assigned to live with his family for two weeks. He was what seemed to many of us, to be a real jerk. He called her, “Undereducated, over-opinionated and overweight.”
He also took shots at her for being from the midwest (I think he was British…..).
The Results of Being a Jerk on Nation-Wide TV?
Someone actually started a website in his honor!
People probably went too far when they published his cell phone number and e-mail and home addresses online.
The San Francisco Wife Swap dad was forced to resign from the boards of two nonprofits, allegedly received e-mailed death threats and stood on the sidelines as his wife, issued a public statement condemning his behavior and asking him to get “professional help.” ( I totally applaud her )
For his part, he published a statement on his wife’s Web site, renee.personallifemedia.com, apologizing for the “terribly insulting way I treated Gayla,” and admitting that “my comments were just stupid and made me look like the one who is undereducated.”
So the guy was a jerk.
This show has jerks on it all the time.
That’s one of the reasons we watch it.
Death threats though?
You may want to talk to somebody if you feel that strongly about this one person.
We have a lot of real issues in the world to deal with that need the wasted attention spent on this guy.

“Wife Swap”
I also saw this show. The guy was a real piece of work–it seemed that even his legal wife was embarrassed by him at times. I think if not for her, he would not enjoy the life he does.
The wife from MO. seemed a very sincere type of person.
While I think death threats are way over the top, I say shame on him too.
I have not seen this show, but the whole concept of a wife swap, for whatever reason, sounds fraught with danger.
How rude! I feel like smacking the guy! Ugh!
I used to watch Wife Swap all the time – it was always interesting to see the differences between polar opposite families. The guy was obviously a jerk – but to receive death threats? Not cool…people seem to forget that line between reality and ‘edited for ratings’ television – even reality shows like this are edited to milk the best drama they possibly can to attract viewership for ratings. I feel sorry for his wife and kids to have him be a jerk on National Television. But no one deserves death threats, no matter how big of a jerk they appear to be.
Hi! Thanks for stopping by! This is a fun blog. I love all the news. I finally had to quit watching Wife Swap because I found myself getting annoyed with some of these people and yelling at the t.v. set….not a good thing, lol!
