Twenty lucky winners will receive a copy of The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, a book chronicling one writer, mom and wife’s journey to true happiness. ARV: $13.00
In an article Rubin wrote for WomansDay.com describing what inspired her efforts, she said: “I always figured I’d eventually stop twisting my hair and wearing running shoes all the time. I’d remember my friends’ birthdays. I wouldn’t let my daughter watch TV during breakfast. I’d spend more time laughing and having fun. I’d be more polite. Then, one April day, on a morning just like every other morning, I had a sudden realization: I was in danger of wasting my life. I saw that the years were slipping by. ‘What do I want from life, anyway?’ I asked myself. ‘Well…I want to be happy.’ But I had never thought about what made me happy or how I might be happier.”
That’s what began her efforts, which began with a calendar Rubin designed for herself, on which she could record her resolutions and grade her progress. The calendar turned into a blog, which offered supplemental insight to those looking to find their own happiness, and included the advice of philosopher Aristotle to the contemporary revelations of Oprah. The blog grew immensely, and was turned into the book we’re giving away.
Rubin’s story and mission has resonated with several people, including many of us at Woman’s Day. In fact, we were so inspired that we started our very own, blog-based version of The Happiness Project, which follows the year-long efforts—based on Rubin’s advice—of a few fabulous Woman’s Day editors and contributing writers.
