I don’t really know who Corey Heim was to be honest with you.
To most of us, he’s just another Hollywood young death statistics that may or may not have been caused by prescription drugs. The story kind of went in one ear and out the other for me until I read a blog post totally slamming the actor and accusing him of overdosing on illegal drugs. This post was written within hours of his death and the tone of it was ‘another spoiled actor- who cares?’ And boy, did this person have comments on both sides of the fence. Result of the post: of course, the intended traffic.
Is it right for a blogger to totally slam someone within hours of his death simply because he was an actor and may have had an addiction?
As a former nurse on a substance abuse unit, I can tell you that addiction is a very serious thing. As a person who has lost a family members recently, I can tell you that I’d be pretty upset if someone slammed my loved one while I was grieving.
BTW- was it an overdose? “Access Hollywood” says on its Web site that Haim’s mother had been told by the coroner’s office that her son had an enlarged heart and his lungs were filled with water.

I didn’t know him as a person… but, I grew up with him as a crush from movies. Any life cut too short is a waste.

I loved Corey Haim in the 80s. The two movies he was in that stand out for me are Lost Boys and Lucas. And, I have to say that it really disgusts me when the media or anyone else talks badly about an actor/actress hours, even days after their death. I feel bad for their families who have to go through all that.

I don’t know who that guy is either.
Thanks for the update. Of course as you so aptly pointed out we don’t change our clocks and I’ve yet to figure out why everyone else does. Oh well. Lose an hour sleep and get an hour older I suppose. LOL You know I’ve lived in both states that don’t change their clocks ever. How cool is that? Not very if you ask me. Doesn’t Indiana have a portion of their state that is in Eastern and the rest in Central? How confusing is that. LOL
I love your blue haired old bat response. Well done
Have a great Saturday

I remember him from the 80s but after that he disappeared. I’m not sure if his death was due to addiction, but I agree…leave the guy alone and let his loved ones grieve for him. I do not know anyone with an addiction, but we all have our less harmful but not healthy “addictions” whether it be eating too much, watching too much TV, or whatever, and how hard is it to change those relatively simple habits? So I can’t imagine how hard it would be to kick a drug habit.

Oh, wasn’t he in STand by Me?? I thought so–with River Pheonix–the other dude who died of drugs. Whatever killed him, his body was ravaged by the drugs he used. Sad, isn’t it, that he was so troubled???

Ahem, I personally LOVED Haim. Loved loved loved him. So much so that I actually watched the “two coreys” show. It was really sad. He did struggle with drugs, even on that show, but even on that show, he was caught many times talking about his depression, and how he NEEDED something, he reached out MANY times. And you know…you are right. Drug addiction is a serious thing. and we don’t hear enough of the “real” people that struggle from it (though I think Intervention is a great show for this). As much as I love Haim, though, would a regular Joe Schmoe get the same attention? Maybe the news should stop gossiping. Maybe they should start portraying more real life overdoses (even if it wasn’t) to educate rather than gossip.
On that, can I just say I have had a long day. But I did love Haim. It made me sad to see what happened, no matter HOW it happened (now, don’t go asking me about MJ/Farrah/ and the Globes or you will have like five pages of a post. THAT WAS WRONG!

I think the news did end up reporting that Haim died from an unintended overdose of prescription drugs… but I’m not sure.
And if were the NCAA tournament– specifically the men– were in my area, then I would be ALL ABOUT IT! Actually, I’m trying desperately to get tickets to a conference tourney in our area today!

Oh wow…I understand generating controversy and all to get airtime (Look at that crazy evil uber Conservative blonde woman who is always plugging a book on the Today show, she sells books by saying horrifying things.) But slamming someone who just died of an overdose (not that we know that for sure) is crossing the line. He was clearly struggling, clearly in pain, and just because he was famous once doesn’t make it less tragic or in any way deserved.
It’s sad either way. I had my fair share of crushes on this Corey. Saw Lost Boys about a bazillion times. Could recite every line from License to Drive. He was a heroin addict, end of story. Terribly difficult to kick and it got the best of him. It’s amazing it didn’t happen sooner.
At the end of the day, he is somebody’s son, somebody’s brother, and somebody’s friend. Let all the heartless folks out there put that in their pipe and smoke it!
Happy Saturday Sharefest!!!!

Oh oh oh, I had a whole other post that seemed to disappear about how I can’t believe that people would say horrible things about an addict who had lost his battle, and we don’t even know if that is true yet by the way.
What I hope people remember about cases like this (other than the fact that as a 13 year old I watched Lost Boys and License to Drive about a gazillion times) is that Corey was somebody’s son, somebody’s brother, somebody’s best friend. Whether he was famous once, whether he gambled it away, whatever he chose to do with his life, someone is hurting that he is gone…
So tell those jerks who said those things to get off their pedestals, come down here with the rest of us, and put that in their pipe and smoke it…

Seriously….some people don’t get it….
Sometimes, I feel almost as sorry for them.
I’m just guessing that you didn’t grow up in the 80′s, you young thing you.
The the Coreys (Corey Feldman and Corey Haim) were HUGE in the 80′s. Remember The Lost Boys? No? How about Licence to Drive? Still no? How about Dream a Little Dream? Am I batting zero here? Oh well.
I loved the Coreys back in the 80s, however, I left that love for them in that decade. The two of them were total wastes of space in their later lives with or without drugs. I read that Corey Haim was broke and destitute just before his death. How sad; to be an 80s icon and then be a nothing.

Hi! Following you over from FF (Yeah I’m late. It was a busy Friday for me, LOL!). I DO know who Corey Haim is, and the whole Two Corey’s thing is pretty well known to me too. Corey Haim and Corey Feldman did several movies together (Lost Boys, Licensed to Drive are 2 I can recall off the top of my head). I hadn’t kept up with him over the years though, so I was pleasantly surprised to see what a good looking man he became (I always thought he was kinda dorky, LOL, when I was kid.) I always find it sad to read about someone addiction. The life of a celebrity is much harder then a normal person, so its really no surprise that there is an abundance of addictions out there. He will be missed for sure.

I know who the blogger is and she had crossed the line with this one, as she has done in the passed. She’s pretty much an attention whore. All under the disguise of being a “mommy blogger”.

I wish that I’d get lucky enough to meet a nice leprochaun like that.
Yes he was an addict. And even if he did die from an overdose people should show sympathy for his struggle. We all have “issues”. For those who want to tear him down for his drug abuse, I guess the only thing I can say is be thankful that isn’t YOUR struggle. And hope that when you die nobody points at you and says how horrible you are.
As a society we are so quick to tear-down, point at, talk about and break people without a blink of an eye.
RIP Corey Haim.

I was a teenager in the late 70′s ~ early 80′s and grew up watching Corey Haim. I loved him! It’s so sad to hear that another young star has lost their life to addiction….whether it was illegal or prescription drugs. Addiction is addiction. I think it’s awful that someone would discount their life “just because” they are another “hollywood statistic.” So very sad!
Just out visiting on this rainy weekend! Take care

Whenever I hear of someone whose life once seemed celebrate who has battled any demon, chemical or otherwise, I feel sadness. I do remember him. He and I were about the same age and I loved his movies as a teen. Whether his death is at all related to abuse or not, he was a son, a friend, a sibling, and he left behind people who are now in pain. So often we see our celebrities through the lens of a rose-colored camera that tells us that since they are rich, beautiful and successful, they must be happy. How untrue this can be and it reminds me that while I am not on any magazine covers, I am happy. And blessed. So I choose to pray for his loved ones.
At least, that’s my take.

Harriet, I am so happy you commented on that post about Corey. I was so sad when I read it, and totally disgusted that this blogger would go after traffic in such a nasty way. How sad and pathetic. I kind of liked reading her blog from time to time, but now am totally turned off.
No matter her feelings on celebrities and drugs, it is horrible, in my opinion, to totally attack someone who has passed. He cannot even answer her accusations. And his poor mom. No matter his cause of death, it is not our place to judge, condemn, attack, whatever. I know it was all for traffic, which makes it really sad, and as a blogger, sets a poor example.
OK. I am done. Off my pedestal now. Btw, I tries to leave a comment on that post, but she closed it. Wonder why.

I agree, as a nurse, it is terrible thing when someone’s life is cut short unexpectedly. And as someone who has also lost loved ones to drug abuse, I would be outraged if someone lambasted my loved one while I was still grieving.
