Mail on Monday-Friday only?
Will this be the push to move more of us online to pay bills and communicate?
U.S. Postal Service says that they are $10 billion in debt and they wanna cut back on delivery services. Well, they’ve said this before from what I hear. Two years ago they talked this talk and said they would lose $6 billion in 2009. It’s actual losses for 2009 were (only) $3.8 billion. If the USPS were to cut Saturday service, and they seem to be pretty lucky in getting their way, they say they will save $3.5 billion a year. A billion here…a billion there…heck, it won’t be too long till it costs $1 to send grandma a birthday card.
Do Ya think the USPS is obsolete? Whining?
What do you think about no Saturday service?
I’m thinking that my Saturday service is kinda lame anyway…
Thursday goodies….

I heard this report this morning, too. I’d REALLY hate no Saturday mail, but I understand the USPS is in a bad way. Sigh!

Sorry I strayed. I had already agreed to do it before we did our thing. I don’t have a free loading adult child here at the moment, but I have! Loved the WMD line! Enjoy you day…
They already don’t deliver the mail if there’s a smidgeon of snow or a bit of rain, has anybody else noticed that? Maybe it’s just where I live but I notice that nobodyaround here gets mail on a lot of days.

#9 in your Thursday Thunks!!! Way excellent!!!
And, about the USPS….they’ve always sucked if you ask me. No matter WHAT day they cut out. Thing is, they’re NOT saving money when it comes to wages….a friend of mine is a letter carrier, they have alternate days off each week. One week it’s Monday, the next week it’s Tuesday…being that when it comes to Friday they get FRIDAY AND SATURDAY off….so think about it, if they go to just 5 day delivery, they’re not saving money on truck costs OR wages…so what is it going to accomplish? And speaking of top paying jobs as you did in your 13…what about a best selling author that is only high school grad or maybe a star pro ball player drafted from high school?
Here is my T-13 Notable Irish
[scroll down below my Thursday 13]
Nothing ever comes in the mail besides bills anyway…..They can cut down to 1 day a week for all I care.

I hardly get snail mail anymore. I get all of my bills online and most people e-mail me. That said, I still get packages in the mail and I’d be bummed if Saturday delivery went away.
About Saturday mail — yawn. All my important stuff anymore comes in my email. And yes, I think the USPO is whining. What are they going to do when all the much older (not technically savvy) people die off and everyone stops needing them? They better start planning for the future…
About your T-13, wow you have to go into management or engineering to make any money. BOR-ing. I guess I’ll be a very underpaid teacher’s aide or something. I’d rather love what I do and I wouldn’t if I went into any of the fields on the list. Figures.

Every time I see those salary lists, I feel down in the dumps. I just hope I can make enough money so I can write full time.
*crosses fingers*
Happy TT!
I don’t like them cutting back Saturday service, but it wouldn’t change my life that much. I’d still use them. For one thing, I need to be able to send off my blog prizes.

I know that working for newspapers is not on that list. I make about $300 a month freelancing for the local paper and mix that with very part time foster care respite for people with disabilities, which I used to do full time. I can only afford to do this because I’m out of debt and live very simply.
I think the PO probably needs to downsize but not cut out deliveries days. I don’t pay bills online.

What a great post! I think I need to visit more often. On your jobs, I think I’d like to do the computer management stuff. I couldn’t be an engineer. I have a Master’s and I don’t make the kind of money most of those jobs have. That’s what I get for being an educator! We had a fully-grown free-loading adult in our house until recently! No fun!
You know what I don’t care if the US Postal Service discontinues mail service on Saturday. Sifting through junk mail and bills is not one of my favorite past times.
I enjoyed reading your list from Carreer Builder. Too bad my husband and I don’t have any of those jobs…oh wait I am a blogger maybe there is hope for us, lol!
Thanks for stopping by Healthy Moms and leaving us a comment.

I am old-fashioned and still prefer to get mail. But I could deal with no Saturday delivery if I had to.
Those salary numbers were depressing. Yikes.

I used to live somewhere remote and the mail came in on Tuesday and went out on Friday. Try convincing banks and government departments that it really won’t get to you tomorrow.

I don’t think this will push any more people to make payments online. It is just the government shooting themselves in the foot again, as people are going to become more frustrated and end up forgetting to pay bills.
I enjoyed your answers for both Thursday 13 and Thursday Thunks

This doesn’t bother me because we hardly get any mail anymore anyway. I rarely pay my bills through the mail, so I wouldn’t be affected by the lag time. We’ve got to cut somewhere and I’m all for it. Now let’s work on their pensions…..
