My Security Shield….yet another bad guy?

August 8, 2010

I hit the big 10,000.

No, not winning lottery tickets or years old.

I had 10,000 emails in my inbox. I have no idea how it grew to be so big.  G-mail gives you a huge mailbox for free so it’s easy to forget to open mail that looks lame.

I’ve been busy deleting stuff- 50 at a time.

I found this in the archive;

And the Malware Threats Continue…

This time it was My Security Shield. UURRGGHHH…

Yes, I know you’re asking….“is she still dropping entrecards?”. The answer of course is yes I am. I really enjoy the friends that I have made and visiting their blogs. Which is why, I use Malwarebytes. There is a free version which is very useful. I ran it twice and it kicked MSS’s butt. I needed to restart my computer of course.

The upgraded version will protect you in realtime and update on it’s own. I’m thinking about upgrading for $22.45. CNET loves this product.

I’m not getting a cent for this. I’m just telling you that this thing zapped the latest “My Security Shield” which seems to be the latest threat.  I also ran my McAfee which did not detect this but, did detect other goodies.

FYI:

Also, Microsoft has a free Malware Download. I don’t know if it’s good or not but, it’s worth a look.

My boyfriend recently installed Malware Bytes on this pc and thankfully there was nothing found. Yay! We can’t ever be too careful.

I tend to keep my email in box at about 200. When it hits around 300 I start deleting. So the 200 is my goal. I generally delete something once I’ve taken care of it, I do use folders for things I want to keep like travel confirmations, knitting links, stuff like that.

Sorry to hear you’re having issues with computer stuff. Several computer geeks told me it’s the malware and blockers and such that often cause the problems, that people in general have too much extra stuff on their computer. They should a firewall and one virus protection software and then they should trust it and use common sense.

good Luck

ooooo free tools. goody goody. malwarebytes is one that I highly recommend. going to try one of the others and see if it helps clean up some of this miscellaneous junk in my trunk (wink*wink).

so now wait, let me get this right – you have 10 thousand pcs of email in your inbox ? girllllllllll can we trade. try 31735 unopened emails in my gmail box. we won’t even discuss my work emails..

uhhh ruhhhh what’s your secret Harriet, how are you keeping your email so managable ?

I demand you reveal the secret, right here and now (stamping my feet and banging my fist on the desk lightly with a glass of badass ale) or I’m going to get huffy. btw, what does huffy mean ? I saw it in a betty davis movie and thought it sounded kinda like “You betta respect my authoroton” like cartman says.. so you better fess up sister. right now (looking for the remainder of the badass ale)
