Over this past weekend, gas went up 20 cents a gallon here.
While fears of what’s going on in the Mideast should logically affect the price of gas, are things getting a bit out of control?
In a recent Op-ed in the Washington Post, 5 myths were given about the price of gas. #1 has to do with Libya.
Surprise, according to the article, Libya is not a big enough global oil supplier to have a meaningful effect on gas prices. Some 20 or 30 years ago Libya had been selling us around 700,000 barrels of oil per day. But today, we import less than 50,000 barrels per day from Libya. We have around 9.2 million barrels per day the imported in 2010. Less than 2 percent come from Libya right now. The rise in gas prices has more to do with fears about the Mid East in general with a sprinkle of “because we can” sprinkled on top.

Alaska, Alaska, Alaska….
Not that I read this every day but, according to the Anchorage Daily News, Gov. Sean Parnell’s appointee for the panel that nominates state judges testified Wednesday that he would like to see Alaskans prosecuted for having sex outside of marriage. This is the guy who would be responsible to nominate Judges in Alaska. About premarital sex, this guy says it leads to violence.
