It’s no secret that the paws on our best friends can take somewhat of a beating in winter weather. With the salt on the ground and cold temps, our dogs are probably feeling it too.
Three Things We Can Do to Protect Our Paws
Here are three ideas on protecting the paws on our poochies.
1. Dog booties.
Probably not a favorite for some but, booties can go a long way at keeping the salt out of the spaces between pads. I actually got some for my schnauzer because the snow piles up in the fur on her legs and gets hard to remove.
2. Towel paws off.
We leave a towel by the front door to towel off paws. It takes a bit of time but, is worth not having a mess of paw prints in addition to salt etc stuck on paws.
Some dogs like a good paw massage. I know people who will massage petroleum jelly in the pads to keep them moist. It’s important to use not a lot and to massage it in to prevent dogs getting sick from licking it off or getting jelly all over the house.
