We love our pets and want share our love for them on Valentines Day.
I know my dogs don’t understand what Valentines Day is but, I want them to know I love them. This year they’ll be getting homemade doggie cookies that I’ll attempt to shape into hearts for them. That and a jaunt around the backyard will make them happy.
Here is just a reminder about the hazards to pets.
Valentines Day Warnings about Chocolate for Dog Owners
Don’t let your dog eat chocolate
Yes, chocolate is toxic to dogs.
Why is chocolate toxic to dogs?
Because it contains methylxanthines.
Methylxanthines are caffeine-like stimulants that affect gastrointestinal, neurologic and cardiac function.
The result of this is your pooch can start vomiting, get diarrhea, become hyperactive, have seizures and get an abnormally elevated heart rate. The ASPCA says that the high-fat content in lighter chocolates can potentially lead to a life-threatening inflammation of the pancreas.
Wanna celebrate Valentines with your dog?
Treat your dog to a walk around the block or belly rub instead.
