This was the one thing that we missed out on the last time that we visited New York.
The last time that we were in the Big Apple and walking around the Brooklyn Bridge area, it was a very hot and humid day. We really wanted to walk the bridge but, we could not figure out how to get on the pedestrian walk. The bridge is a multi-level bridge with the pedestrian walk on the top of it. We decided to walk on over to Chinatown instead. Chinatown was nice because we were the tall people for once :). It wasn’t so nice because with the heat, the smell was not that great…
It was an amazing day…Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge
We did our research this time around to figure out how to find the pedestrian walkway.
We decided to take the subway to Brooklyn and then walk our way back to Manhattan. My daughter actually thought of this strategy and it was a good one. The New York subway is surprisingly easy to maneuver. It is no wonder why it is one of the more popular methods of transportation in the city.
Finding the pedestrian entrance was easy to do thanks to Google maps and a few signs along the way. The bridge itself is divided in half with the bikes on one side and the walkers on the other. The people riding their bikes seem to take this very seriously. Many of the bike riders, I suspect, may have been on their way to work in Manhattan. The day was spectacular- 70’s and dry. The sky could not have been more blue. The views were amazing. I will post more later on.
From what I can tell, the walk is a bit over a mile but, it is a short mile.
After the Brooklyn Bridge walk, we ventured around the area and up to the World Trade Center site.
